Sorry if it seems I am making up for a quiet week, but the truth is, this is exactly what I am doing!
Dr. George Carlo is not just anyone, he headed a $28.5 million dollar study funded by the cell phone industry. From 1993 to 1999, he was point man for the burgeoning industry -- and they thought they could count on him to deliver the results they wanted because he more or less signed off on the safety of breast implants.
Dr. Carlo failed to please and was fired. He wrote a book and a movie is also coming out. For a preview of coming attractions, see the video on YouTube:
Now, at the risk of pinching some nerves, it has recently come to my attention that at least some research contracts contain a very questionable clause giving the entity commissioning the work the right to refuse payment if the work does not produce a favorable conclusion. Dumbfounded, I began to think of the countless studies that we try to trust . . . oh, gosh, time to call it a day.
