The stairs were a challenge to Savika but she managed them. She never really liked them but she wanted to go upstairs even though she knew that coming down would be harder than going up. I miss her terribly and am grateful to her for all she taught me. I am a better person for having shared my space and time with her, and I look forward to many reunions in lifetimes to come.

Almost as soon as she passed away, a friend sent me links to Akitas awaiting adoption. I couldn't think about it at that time, but last night, I began fostering a lovely chap named Niko who is awaiting an invitation to his forever home. Niko is a handsome and cheerful fellow with lots of youthful energy and absolutely excellent manners. He is 110 pounds, but he is friendly and sociable and would probably adjust to anyone who offers him the love he deserves.
